I Cooked!

this picture looks like shit. it looked much tastier in real life. my photography skills are much worse than megan's, whose pictures usually appear here.

I don't cook much anymore because Megan is so much better at it than I am. Meg is sick today and we've been watching Gordon Ramsay's The F Word. Gordon's main thrust is getting people cooking "Sunday Lunch" (or at least to get people to buy his book, "Sunday Lunch"). I figured since today was like Sunday for me, I'd do the same.

I've been wanting to try Field Roast for a while now, and we haven't really gotten around to it. If you're not familiar with this vegan wonderfood, check it. It's a meat analogue made by leeching the starch out of wheat dough. The gluten is left and it has a meaty texture. They add flavors and what not, and then it becomes a tasty roast!

The rest of the meal (all vegan!):
Sauteed Mushrooms and Onions with Corn - Crimini and Baby Portabello Mushrooms, Red Onions and Fresh Corn sauteed in Grapeseed Oil. Reduced down with homemade veggie stock (Megan's).

Yukon Gold Mashed Potatoes - taters, Earth Balance, soy milk, kosher salt, cracked pepper. We like them with big chunks still in them, not smooth at all.

Garlic Jalapeño Gravy - Sauteed two cloves of garlic and a jalapeño in the mushroom pan. As I was deglazing the pan with soy milk (with the intention of adding it to the mash), I thought to myself, "Hey, this is cream gravy!" I threw in some flour and salt, and it turned out pretty bomb. Megan said, "This is the best gravy I've ever had. It actually has flavor!"
I felt pretty good about it. Everything was very tasty, and we'll definitely be buying the Field Roast again.
