Old Hippie: Hey, what do you think about that Pink Floyd band, man?

Me: I despise them. I think they're self indulgent drug fueled nonsense. I don't like anything about them.

Old Hippie: Oh man, you're missing out.

Me: It's not that I only listen to new rock or something... I love King Crimson, early Genesis, the Beach Boys. I just really hate Pink Floyd.

he gets really serious, puts his hands on the counter, leaning in toward me. his eyes narrow and his voices drops in pitch and volume, almost to a whisper.

Old Hippie: Well maybe you haven't listened to it loud enough man.
What. The. Fuck. That's the most twisted, burnt-out, pothead, rainbow gathering logic I've ever heard. That's me like saying, "Well, I don't really like The English Patient, it's over-long, confusing, sappy and heavy handed, and not very well acted or directed." And then you saying, "But maybe you just didn't watch on a big enough tv."
